First Sober Date Night!

Image
First Sober Date Night! (Me and My Boyfriend.)  My first sober date night was a success guys! I asked my lovely boyfriend to join me on an alcohol free date and he was more excited than me!  When I first met my boyfriend, I was in an awful place in life and I would go out and get black out drunk most nights. I hated myself, I hated my situation and I honestly thought my life was well and truly over. Our first date, we went on a lovely walk and then... went clubbing. I am very surprised he came back for a second date but I think he saw past the broken person that I was at the time. I am so, unbelievably lucky that he did too. He is the reason I am sober, he is the reason I even cut down on the drinking all that time ago and he is the reason that I have the strength to get better in the first place. With all that being said, I do want to add a disclaimer that I am always there for him too, he is not my carer and I am NOT an inconvenience. We look after each other and share ...

How Am I REALLY Feeling?

How Am I REALLY Feeling? (A reminder, before you read this post!) Trigger Warning's: Discussion of Mental Health that may be upsetting for some people. (You will find the paragraph in red so that you can read around it if you would like too.)  How am I really feeling? I think I avoid this question as much as I can because my moods are so up and down, it's hard to give an accurate answer. However, for you reader, I will try.  Today, I am 37 day's sober (when writing this). I am on my fourth antidepressant in five weeks and my boyfriend has just gone back to work after some time off. I think my mood towards each part of my life is vastly different so, it is a bit more complicated than good or bad.  Sobriety. You know, I never knew it'd feel this good to not drink but it truly does. I thought I would be completely miserable sober, that I couldn't go through any difficult emotions without alcohol to fall back on. However, I have proven myself SO wrong. Being able ...

A Moment...

A Moment...  Hi, this post is a little bit different to the other ones that I've posted so far. I had a bit of a moment today and in a moment where I would usually collapse emotionally, I found some strength. I feel like my sobriety is working. It is doing what I intended for it to do. I wanted to share with you guys, a little bit about that moment in hopes that it may help someone, anyone that needs it. I would love it if you would tell me about any similar moments you have had, especially early on in your sobriety journey.  The moment;  Sitting down, bottle opener in hand, I stare at the cool drop of water running down the neck of the bottle of the San Miguel that I've just pulled out of the fridge. A Christmas left over. It doesn't belong to me but still it stares at me as if it was truly meant for me this entire time, like it's been waiting to be the one that ends my dry streak. There have been harder day's of sobriety, yet sat here, it feels like this v...

Sobriety in 2024!

Image
*Roughly a 5 minute read.*   Sobriety in 2024! HAPPY NEW YEAR SOBER FRIENDS!! "Did you know every battle that you've had to face, is making you bulletproof." - Fletcher  Above is a quote from my favorite singer Fletcher. I am seeing her for the second time in 2024. We were meant to see her in 2023 but she had to reschedule. I met her the last time I saw her, it was one of my happiest moments. Her music has been a huge part of my healing over these past few years. I haven't told much of my story that isn't to do with being sober. I want to do that today. I'm not comfortable going into too much detail but I am gonna sit here, write and see what flows for me emotionally. Don't worry though, there is a point to sharing this, so strap in for the ride, haha.  I got my first ever big girl job when I turned 18 and fell in love with a coworker that was eight years older than me. I moved in with him at 18, married him at 19 and divorced him by the time I had turned ...

31 Day's... Let's Talk!

Image
31 Day's... Lets Talk! (Keychain from soberandcurious on instagram!) 31 Days Sober. The longest period of Sobriety that I have completed since I started drinking at sixteen. How do I feel now? Proud. Have I found it easy? At times, sure. Have I wobbled? 100%. Let's talk about it.  I want to start this post off with a very CLEAR disclaimer that I was not an alcoholic. My relationship with alcohol was indeed toxic, it was my way of coping when I found things too hard and I never knew when to stop, even when I was just drinking for fun/socially, I would end up emotional and erratic a lot of the time. I recently contacted my doctors to tell them that I was ready for help (after them advising I get some for a little while.) They suggested contacting AA and I don't know why but, that terrified me. So I vowed to try and do this my way before going to any meetings, not because I disagree with AA but because I wanted to know if I could do this without going, to say that I had tr...

My FIRST Sober Christmas!

My FIRST Sober Christmas! Day's 27, 28, 29 and 30. Ho, Ho, Hello. How are you? I hope you're doing well.  As I'm writing this, I am almost one month sober. ONE MONTH! Can you believe it? I have tried many times in the past to get sober and I have never made it this far before. If you know anything about my story, then you will know about my "Dry December" plan, but if you don't, let me tell you all about it!   November 27th 2023, I went out and got very drunk and had my first ever blackout. It was a really scary for me and the people around me. The morning after, I had a very long and hard conversation with myself about what I was doing to myself and my body. I sat my boyfriend down and told him that I had decided that I was going to be sober for the whole of December. I mean, if I could get through the booziest month of the British year sober, I could control my drinking in the future, right? I have since learnt that that isn't how it works. However, what...

The Journey to Sobriety...

Hello,  It's taken a while for me to find myself here... but here I am. Three weeks sober. 21 days with not a drop of alcohol touched. I dreamt last night that I took a sip of water but as I let it hit my tongue, it turned into sambuca and my sobriety went down the drain... I woke up in a state of panic. I didn't know this meant so much to me until I thought, so vividly, that I'd messed up already. So, I decided to start this blog to post about my journey with being and remaining sober. Below is my story, so you know exactly why I am here and as a little introduction to my reasons for sobriety.  My Story; Trigger warnings; -Talk of alcohol & drug abuse. -Talk of suicidal thoughts and self harm.  I started drinking when I was sixteen. Like any British teenager, I guess. My Mom didn't drink much and didn't like me having alcohol in the house and my Dad drank too much and was fine with me having a glass or two at Christmas. My relationship with alcohol was kind o...
